// What It Does

What you can do with it.

Described from how the product works today.

  • 01

    In the Studio, beside the BOM

    Calculators and coverage studies open from a Studio’s Calculator & Coverage module. Most run inside a Studio; CCTV Camera Coverage, Lighting Designer and Light Output also work on their own.

  • 02

    Coverage drawn on the plan

    Speaker, ceiling-speaker, pendant-speaker and camera coverage studies are drawn on the floor plan, so you can see the area each device covers.

  • 03

    Built around real design questions

    Bandwidth for AV-over-IP streams, PoE budgets, cable gauge and voltage drop, conduit capacity, UPS run time, rack heat — each calculator addresses one question a designer asks.

Good to know. Calculators are planning aids that turn the values you enter into a result. They are not certified, and results should be checked against manufacturer data, the applicable standards and the conditions of your project before design decisions rest on them.
// Every Calculator

All 19 calculators, by what they size.

Names and one-line descriptions as they appear in the product.

Video 8

  • AVoIP BandwidthNetwork bandwidth for AV-over-IP video streams.
  • Projector Brightness & ThrowBrightness and throw distance for a projector.
  • Projector Throw RatioThrow ratio, image width and distance for a projector.
  • Display BrightnessDisplay brightness needed for the room’s light.
  • Video Wall ControllerWhich controller a video wall needs.
  • Video Wall BuilderSize and layout of a video wall.
  • Display Size (AVIXA DISCAS)Display size from viewing distance.
  • Camera Distance / DORICamera distance: detect, observe, recognise, identify.

Audio 3

  • Speaker WattageSpeaker power needed for a target level.
  • Amplifier WattageAmplifier power for the speakers on it.
  • Acoustic GainNeeded acoustic gain for a speech system.

Infrastructure 8

  • Cable SizeCable gauge and voltage drop over a run.
  • Conduit CapacityHow many cables fit in a conduit.
  • PoE BudgetPoE budget of a switch against its devices.
  • Rack CoolingHeat of a rack and the cooling it needs.
  • Rack BuilderEquipment laid out in a rack.
  • IP Table GeneratorIP address table for the devices.
  • UPS SizingUPS size and run time for the load.
  • Wi-Fi CoverageWi-Fi access points needed for a space.

Coverage and lighting studies

  • Speaker coverageHow loud and how even a speaker is across the room, with its coverage drawn on the plan.
  • Ceiling speakersHow many, where, and the circle each one covers.
  • Pendant speakersSpeakers hung below the ceiling: their layout and coverage.
  • Camera coverageWhat a camera sees: its field of view and the distance it covers.
  • CCTV Camera CoverageField of view, pixel density and DORI zones for one camera, or every camera on a site plan.
  • Lighting DesignerLay out luminaires and see the lux heat map, uniformity and load, in plan and 3D.
  • Light OutputFrom lumens get the wattage and coverage, or from watts get the lumens and coverage.

Where to find it in the Studio

Calculator & Coverage (“Audio, video & infrastructure calculators; speaker and camera coverage”) is a module of every Studio, and the Platform also has a Calculator & Coverage page where you pick the studio.

// Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

Which calculators are available?
19 calculators in three groups — 8 for video, 3 for audio and 8 for infrastructure — plus coverage studies for speakers, ceiling and pendant speakers, cameras, CCTV and lighting. The full list is on this page.
Are the results certified or code-compliant?
No. They are planning aids for the professional. Check results against manufacturer data and the standards and codes that apply to your project.
Can I use the calculators without a Studio?
CCTV Camera Coverage, Lighting Designer and Light Output work on their own. The others run inside a Studio, which you create from an Opportunity.
