// 3D Rack Elevations

Visualize Equipment with 3D Rack Elevations

Place the studio’s rack-mounted equipment into a rack elevation, then view the same layout as 2D front, rear and side views or as a 3D model you can orbit.

// What It Does

What you can do with it.

Described from how the product works today.

  • 01

    Driven by the BOM

    Equipment comes from the studio’s BOM. A product needs a rack height in rack units (RU), and the BOM row’s Location set to Rack, to be placed; one slot is used per unit of quantity.

  • 02

    Always current

    Placements store position only. Names, models and RU are read from the BOM each time, so changing a product’s rack units reflows the elevation instead of leaving a stale copy.

  • 03

    2D views and a 3D model

    Switch between 2D drawing views and a 3D model of the same placements, with isometric, front, rear and side camera presets and free orbit. Click a unit in 3D to select it — the same selection the 2D views use.

  • 04

    Standard 19-inch geometry

    The 3D model uses standard 19-inch rack geometry, where 1U is 44.45 mm, with mounting rails, vented side panels and feet or casters.

  • 05

    Accessories and shelves

    Add rack accessories such as PDUs, cable managers and lacing bars, put equipment on shelves, add your company’s own accessories, and colour individual faceplates.

  • 06

    Ready to issue

    Export the rack as a PNG or PDF; the studio’s project file includes the rack in 2D and 3D.

Good to know. The elevation shows the layout you place. Check heat and power for the rack with the Rack Cooling and UPS Sizing calculators.

Where to find it in the Studio

Rack Elevation (“Front/side rack unit layout”) is one of the design modules of every Studio, next to the Line Schematics and Conduit Riser.

// Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What do I need to place equipment in a rack elevation?
The product needs a rack height in rack units (RU), and its BOM row needs Location set to Rack. Equipment with a quantity above one uses one slot per unit.
Is the 3D rack a separate drawing?
No. It is a 3D view of the same placements as the 2D views, and you switch between them inside the rack elevation.
Can I add my own rack accessories?
Yes. Alongside the built-in accessories, a company can add its own with a name, rack units, weight, power and an image.
